Dr. M. Appliance Repair advertises licensed and insured repair services. I feel that I was overcharged for the part and it is my opinion that repairmen did not know what they were doing.
I have a KitchenAid gas range model KGRA806. The bake button would work but the off button would not work in bake mode. The broil button would not work but the convection broil button would work.
The repairman correctly determined the failing part. The man who identified himself as Manual said it would cost $275 and take 4 to 6 weeks to get the part. But that for $200 I could get the part quickly. I did not pay the fee to expedite. The day after the part was replaced I went on-line and found that the part I paid $275 for retails for about $125 to $145(see hyperlink- Stove/Oven/Range Membrane Switch – WP#9756559ES ).
While the repairmen were careful and meticulous it was clear that they did not know how to replace the membrane switch. The unit is composed of 2 membranes glued together and also glued to a metal plate. The metal plate has four screw holes in the back and is replaced by getting to the back of the unit, unscrewing the old unit and screwing the new unit to the stove.
The repairmen appeared to not know how to gain access to the back of the unit. The membrane switch is attached to the front console of the stove. The repairmen used a putty knife to pry the first membrane off. Then pried the second membrane off. The sanded the glue from the plate. Then pried the front console up and unscrewed the plate. Finally the new membrane switch was screwed to the front console.
